What is Machine
Translation??
Machine translation or MT is an automated
translation, this software is incredibly useful. It lets you understand foreign
language information – like any Web page, document or email – in the language
of your choice in real-time. And it also makes your content and message
understood in other languages, all within seconds.
The advantages of machine translation include cost and speed. Computers
can access a machine translation quickly. There are many types of software that
can be used as MT. One of the most popular and frequently MT used is Google
Translate. Google Translate can translate a text quickly. You can translate
short or long text, but if you need to translate a very long document, you can
purchase software that can process an unlimited amount of text at the cost of
the software alone. There is also software available that can be integrated
with other computer and online tools, providing instant translations in various
contexts.
However, machine translation isn’t sufficient as it would not be an
accurate enough method. It also wouldn’t take into translating a cultural
languages, dialect, idioms, and slang word in the target language. In addition,
sometimes the translation results are not grammatically. This MT only translates word to word without
seeing the equivalence word in target language.
LIST OF MACHINE TRANSLATION SOFTWARE
Systran
Systran provides real-time language translation solutions that enhances
internal collaboration, search, eDiscovery, content management, online customer
support, and e-Commerce.
Babylon Translator
Babylon Translator is a computer dictionary and translation
program. It provides comprehensive free dictionary results and full text
translations between dozens of languages.
Google Translate
Google translate is a free
multilingual machine translation service developed by Google, to translate text. It offers a website interface, mobile apps for Android and iOS, and an API that helps developers build browser extensions and software applications.
Yandex
Yandex machine translation system is statistical: its translations
aren’t based on language rules, the system isn’t even aware of the rules – they
are based on statistics. In order to learn a language, the system compares
hundreds of thousands of texts, or texts containing the same information but in
different languages.
What is Computer
Assisted Translation??
Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) is a human
translation carried out with the aid of computerized tools. That is, a
human translator is the one reading and deducing the meaning of the source text
and transferring it into the target language. They are simply utilizing
computerized translation tools to help them work more quickly and accurately.
Advantages of using a Computer-Assisted Translation Tool
A CAT tool further reduces any
chances of errors by saving the translated segments along with the source
phrase. A translator can easily access any of the translated segments at any
given time to ensure that the segment has been translated adequately.
Computer-assisted translation tool has been developed to allow the translator
to be able to quickly search and alter-if needed- a particular segment of the
text. It has been programmed to assist the translator with the revision in a
timely manner.
The computer-assisted translation
tool saves the translated segments and source segments as distinguished
translation units. It saves these segments in a translation data base, referred
to as the translational memory.
Translation units stored in the
translation memory can be accessed at any given time to be re-used either in
the same document or a different one. Computer-assisted translation tool is
equipped with special search features to allow the translator to access
segments of translated fragments even when two segments do not match
completely.
A
computer-assisted translation tool leads to the effective use of time and
energy resources during the process of translation. It also helps to create a
translation memory, which can be utilized later on as training corpus for machine translation engines.
LIST
OF COMPUTER ASSISTED TRANSLATION SOFTWARE
Wordfast
This is the simplest and one of the cheapest CAT software.
Its efficiency and ease of use makes it the second most popular of its kind in
the world. It allows you to translate all files in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and
Access. Wordfast runs on MAC, it has a memory editor, a glossary, and is
compatible with Trados.
Déjà Vu
This complete CAT software, Déjà Vu, combines project
management and translation and is one of the most widely valued CAT tools.
Combining TM management and advanced machine translation (Example-Based Machine
Translation) means increased productivity. The quality of translation is
optimized through important features dedicated to control and verification of
translation.
Similis
Similis offers a translation tool which allows you to
translate Microsoft Word documents in interactive mode linked to a Similis
server which helps to manage and pre-translate documents as well as helping
with translation memory, glossaries and alignment.
The server deals with all linguistic processes and stores data (memory, vocabulary etc.). Similis recognises and can process the majority of existing memory formats.

SDL Trados / SDLX
These two programs are now one of the largest and most widely
used software packages in the world, and therefore probably the most efficient.
A server function allows to share the software suite.
